Here’s a nifty new Glider™ house for your amusement!
“Robin’s Nest” has 40 rooms and although I did spend a good deal of time designing them (much more than I thought I would), the terrific “Room Editor” made the process enjoyable. This house was inspired by John Calhoun’s “The House”. While parts of it are challenging, it’s mainly supposed to be loads of fun! It doesn’t have all those nearly-impossible mazes found in some houses, so with a little dedication you can complete it.
DO NOT READ THE NEXT SECTION BEFORE TRYING THE “NEST”!
Notes and Tips for Navigating the Rooms:
• “Entrance Bonus!” has Bonus #1 (1000 points). It’s under the table’s right corner.
• To hit the grease jar in “A Supply Shelf”: let yourself fall between the drips from the top of the air vent, hit the jar, and glide back onto the vent.
• When you first enter “A Leaky Area”, try to hit the glider on the stand BEFORE backing onto the vent. The timing — on a Mac IIcx — is just right (trust me).
• I find it helps to use a directional key (e.g. 4 to go left/6 to go right) WHILE the glider is turning around in the “East Side” and “West End” rooms. This gets you past the obstacles over the wall brackets with a clock or battery on them.
• “Mirror, mirror…” begins a 4-room “kid’s” area. (Each has a mousehole; I don’t know why.)
Try using left arrow for elastic bands and right arrow for battery power.
• “Basketball Anyone?” has Bonus #2 (2000 points). It’s above the table’s right corner.
• “Wanda’s Room” has Bonus #3 (1000 points). It’s over Wanda’s bowl. (Say hello to Wanda.) To get the time points, you can quickly leave the room FIRST, come back, turn on the light, and try for the bonus. (This is the only room I do this in.)
• 3000 points for the clock IS a “Temptation” even if you have to return through 7 rooms (just 6 if you hit Clea’s magic mirror right away).
• “Toast & Tea” has Bonus #4 (1000 points). It’s over the tea kettle.
• Be sure you have enough battery power BEFORE going down the stairs in “A Tad Breezy”.
• “Entertainment Center” has Bonus #5 (2000 points). It’s on the guitar speaker. By the way, television can be dangerous (also true in real life).
• The way to hit the thermostat which turns on the air vent in “Wanda?” is to zip over with battery power JUST AFTER Wanda has risen above the line of flight.
• Here’s the destinations of the 3 vents in “Pick a Vent…”: Rooms 22, 28 (!) and 34.
• OK, things get a little trickier in the next trilogy. (Like a New Yorker said when asked, “How do you get to Carnegie Hall?” “Practice!”.)
• “Wet Bonus!” has Bonus #6 (3000 points). It’s under the table (last and hardest bonus). Ignore the fed-o-matic and go for that bonus; it’s worth it.
• The fed-o-matic in “fed-o-matic” is somewhat harder to ignore. It’s OFF to begin with so hit BOTH switches to get past it.
• “Bamboo Room” begins a 6-room series using my favorite background. My thanks to John for his Oriental artwork here and for his excellent designs in general.
• “Kamikaze Mission” is really tricky! (The title says it all.)
• Take a breather in “Oriental Decor”. (I just wanted to display the beautiful artwork.)
• “‘EC’ Was Here” is the name of an Eric Clapton live album.
• Don’t be afraid of the “Killer Toast”; just watch your timing. There are 2 clocks — one on each side of the candles — which you can easily hit by letting your glider fall from the top of the 2 vents in the room.
• Don’t depend on an updraft from the candle when “Leaving ‘The Nest’”. You might require battery power to reach the open window. (A quick exit means over 2000 time points.)
That’s about it.
I hope you’ll consider “Robin’s Nest” to be a decent effort and that you’ll enjoy exploring, and eventually completing, the house.
Good Luck and Happy Gliding!!
